Welcome to the Northern Indiana Operators Association website.

Our mission…

To protect our most precious of resources, water, for our communities, our environment, and our future.  To provide professional and educational opportunities to our members as we strive to serve, educate, and reach out to our communities.

The NIOA was the first operators association outside of the IWPCA.  Established on September 9th, 1969, the NIOA has been serving the needs of wastewater operators ever since. The demographic area in which the NIOA covers are the Michigan state line to the North, the Ohio state line to the East, Highway 24 to the South, and Highway 421 to the West.

The NIOA has always had one of, if not the highest memberships of all the operators associations.  In 2004 there were 230 paid members.  Our members are not only operators, but engineers, scientists, equipment manufacturers, suppliers, governmental representatives and citizens throughout Northern Indiana.  Thus making our organizations knowledge pool extraordinary!

I would like to say Thank You to the Northern Indiana Operator’s Association (NIOA) for allowing me to just talk for two whole days about one of the major loves in my life – wastewater!  When arriving at the Warsaw WPCF I found a great training room waiting for someone to utilize it.  Two large flat screens, a power point project, a white board and most importantly a room full of eager (didn’t know what they were signing up for) students.  Not only did NIOA start the day right by having a continental breakfast, but they kept the spirits up by providing lunch (thank you to the sponsors) for both days as well.  I was very pleased with the participants and their eagerness to listen to my ramblings.  I want to take this time to say Good Luck to all who attended on their Certification Exams and to remind you – it’s just a test – you have the information needed, you just have to put a little time into reading over the material presented.  If you have any questions (we had no heads explode during class – although for a few minutes it was a close call) now that you have started going over your notes please feel free to contact me, you have my e-mail address.  No pressure, but please remember – I have your addresses now!!!
